Precision. Softness. Perfection.
At Posed & Pretty, we treat a downturned mouth by targeting the Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) muscles. These muscles run from the corners of your mouth down toward the jawline; when they are overactive, they pull the corners of the lips downward, often creating a sad or stern expression even when the face is at rest.
- Lift Corners
The DAO muscle's primary function is to pull the corners of the mouth down. By injecting neurotoxin directly into this muscle, we significantly reduce its downward pull. This allow the upward-pulling muscles to take over, resulting in a more neutral or slightly lifted mouth position.
- Marionette Line Softening
Constant downward tension from the DAO muscles can deepen the appearance of "marionette lines" extending from the mouth to the chin. By relaxing the muscle, we relieve the skin of this repetitive folding, which smooths the area and prevents these lines from becoming more etched into the skin.
- Lower Face Rebalancing
We analyze the relationship between the mouth corners and the jawline to ensure a natural result. The goal is to lift the corners of the mouth back to a horizontal, rested position without affecting your ability to smile, speak, or show expression naturally.

Downturned mouth
What to Expect:
Process
The treatment involves a quick, precise injection on each side of the lower jaw area. The process is very quick—usually completed in under 5 minutes—and involves only a minor pinch. Numbing cream is available prior to the procedure.
Downtime
There is no downtime associated with this procedure. You may experience minor redness or swelling at the injection sites that typically resolve within 15 minutes. You can return to work or daily activities immediately.
Results
You will begin to notice the corners of the mouth shifting to a more neutral position within 5–7 days. The final results, including a smoother appearance of the lower face, will be fully visible at the 2-week mark.
Longevity
Results for the DAO area typically last 3–4 months. Because the lower face is highly mobile, regular maintenance appointments are recommended to prevent the downward pull from returning.
